January 24 & 25, 2020, Friday & Saturday 2-day intensive, 9am-4pm
Tuition $280 + $42 materials fee payable in class.
Come learn precision German-trained goldsmithing techniques: a simple way to make an elegant silver tapered-bezel ring with faceted oval stone. Working on actual pieces, not samples, you can create a beautiful, one of a kind ring. In this two-day workshop we will learn a simple way to fabricate a tapered oval bezel. We will spend the first day fabricating the bezel and mounting it to a ring and the second day learning how to set the provided faceted stone, or your own stone if it’s the prescribed size. By understanding and practicing these basic principles, you can unlock a myriad of design possibilities.

This class is best for intermediate jewelry students with some experience fabricating and soldering silver, but no previous stone setting experience required. Things to Bring: 4/0 saw blades, silver solder (hard and medium), magnifiers. Optional to bring if you have: ring clamp, round and/or chain nose pliers, flat-nosed pliers, fine barrette file. Materials fee includes silver for bezel and shank, stone setting bur kit, round bur, chasing tool for setting, setters' wax-stick, and an 8x10 blue lab-sapphire - all yours to keep.

Depending on the student’s skill level, final fabrication and finishing may be needed after the class to complete the project. We offer ongoing independent study opportunities for this purpose.

Your safety is of utmost importance to us: everyone is required to wear closed toed shoes while in the Lab, loose hair must be pulled back and safety glasses and earmuffs are available and required.
