Instructor: Anne Wolf. Tuition $180 plus kit fee of $40-60 (+tax & shipping or kit available for pick up)
Learn valuable metals techniques while you create a long-lasting silver pendant with your choice of photograph or other image. It could be a photo of your favorite pet, a logo or symbol, or even a favorite quote - anything you can print out or cut out of a magazine (1.5” or smaller is a good size). Your image will be protected by a layer of clear or lightly colored plexiglass, with a silver frame and solid silver back. Techniques covered include texturing, sawing, drilling, filing, sanding, oxidizing, and tube-riveting. We’ll even make an easy bail. This class works well for all levels - beginners can stick to the step-by-step design, while the more advanced can create unique works of art. Ideas for customizing your pendant will be covered at every step.

Unit 1: Overview - Choosing and preparing the right photo, designing pendant. Kit overview. Optional: Adding texture to front plate.
Unit 2: Sawing - Basics of sawing acrylic and sawing out interior spaces. Filing and sanding to perfection.
Unit 3: Tubing - Mark and drill holes, cut and prepare tubing. Apply final finish, assemble ‘sandwich’ for riveting.
Unit 4: Riveting. Making the bail, further design ideas. Show off your finished pendant!

Materials Kit:
The kit for Anne's Riveted Photo Pendant class includes your choice of metal - Copper and Brass (2" x 3" x 20 gauge) or Copper and Silver (1.5" x 3" 22 gauge), 2 colors of acrylic, sawblades, sandpaper, drill bits, tubing, bail, leather cord, and even a custom made tube-riveting tool. Just add a photo!

Equipment needed: No torch needed, but you will need a few bench basics - jeweler’s saw, small ball-pein hammer (or chasing hammer), bench pin/anvil combo, hand files, masking tape, scribe and/or sharpie, plus a flexshaft/dremel (or hand drill and a friend). Optional extras: stamp tools, renaissance wax, liver of sulphur.

Safety First! We urge you to wear closed-toed shoes wherever you are working, loose hair must be pulled back and safety glasses and ear protection are always in style. Depending on your skill level, final fabrication and finishing may be needed after the class to complete the project. We offer ongoing independent study opportunities for this purpose.
